Fully automatic turntable wrappers resemble their semi-automatic counterparts, but they feature a pallet roller deck instead of a rotating plate. This allows them to be integrated in an automatic pallet conveyor line. Compared to other types of fully automatic wrappers, turntables typically have a compact design and lower cost of approx. 40 – 80k euro. Due to the centrifugal force on the pallet load during rotation, their throughput capacity is limited to 40-60 pallets per hour.
Rotary arm or ring wrappers are installed over a conveyor section. The pallet is positioned beneath the machine and remains stationary throughout the wrapping process. Rotary arm wrappers have a vertical arm that rotates around the pallet. The arm is equipped with a foil wrap carriage that travels up and down the arm as it wraps the load. Rotary arm wrappers are faster than turntables and can achieve rates of 70-100 pallets per hour. They are priced between 75 – 120k euro excluding integration.
With ring wrappers, the foil wrap carriage is mounted on a horizontal ring that moves up and down over the pallet. They have much less rotational inertia than arm wrappers and can therefore move faster achieving rates of up to 120 pallet per hour in optimal conditions. Ring wrappers are priced between 120 – 200k euro depending on execution and options.
A stretch hood wrapper uses a stretch film to create a tight, protective hood over palletized loads. Therefore the pallet is positioned stationary underneath the machine. A pre-stretched film is drawn from a roll and formed into a tube, which is then positioned over the load. The hood covers the entire pallet and extends downward, creating an air and watertight cover.
Stretch hood wrappers provide excellent protection against dust, moisture, and other environmental factors, as the hood is 100% closed. These machines are the fastest wrapping solution available with a throughput capacity of up to 200 pallets per hour. However, the material cost per pallet are 2-3X higher compared with traditional stretch wrapping. Also the investment in the required machinery is substantial: 120 – 200k euro.
